Kyrie Irving thinks opting in to his Nets deal makes him 'different,' and Twitter has jokes

Kyrie Irving finally opted into his deal with the Brooklyn Nets on Monday afternoon, and somehow he thinks that makes him “different.”

Irving, after seemingly countless rumors and speculation about what he would do next year, reportedly plans to opt in to his nearly $37 million deal with the Nets for next season. That came after reports of an “impasse” between Irving and the Nets front office, reports that he was potentially going to sign a deal with the Los Angeles Lakers and more.

Yet Irving, after apparently telling The Athletic’s Shams Charania about the deal, dropped a really weird quote.

“Normal people keep the world going, but those who dare to be different lead us into tomorrow,” he told Charania. “I’ve made my decision to opt-in. See you in the fall. A11eleven.”

Trying to make himself look like a revolutionary for accepting nearly $37 million to live in Brooklyn and play basketball is, well, certainly one way to go about things.

The sports world, naturally, had plenty of jokes at the ready. With a quote like that, it’s hard to blame them.
