Volcanic Lightning Captured on Camera as Mt Ruang Erupts in Indonesia

The Mount Ruang volcano in North Sulawesi, Indonesia, has erupted, local officials said on Tuesday, April 30, spewing a 2,000 meter (6,500 foot) column of ash and gases into the air.

Footage released by BNPB Indonesia shows the volcanic lightning and lava as the volcano erputed on Tuesday.

The alert level for Mt Ruang had been raised to Level 4, or “Watch,” early on Tuesday, officials said, and Sam Ratulangi International Airport was closed down amid visibility concerns.
