  • Ted Cruz said he doesn't understand how the "SNL" actor Pete Davidson dates "hot women."

  • Cruz also brought up Davidson's relationship with Kate Beckinsale, saying, "Really? The 'SNL' dude?"

  • The comments were part of a podcast segment on "toxic femininity."

On a recent podcast episode, Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas asked how the "Saturday Night Live" actor Pete Davidson gets "all of these, like, hot women."

In the episode of "Verdict with Ted Cruz" published on Thursday, Cruz's cohost, Michael Knowles, read a viewer question asking Cruz about "toxic femininity."

"The Women's March was this weekend. We are seeing women like Amber Heard, Jada Pinkett Smith, Meghan Markle, Kim Kardashian — is it time we start talking about toxic femininity?" the question read.

Cruz said Kardashian "seems fine," and Knowles replied that he was "Team Kanye," referring to Kanye West, who was married to Kardashian from 2014 until their divorce this year. Cruz then shared his thoughts on Davidson, who's now dating Kardashian.

"Pete Davidson, all right, how come that dude gets all of these, like, hot women?" Cruz asked.

Laughing, Knowles replied: "Because of toxic femininity, Senator. That is the evidence that something has gone wrong."

"Pete Davidson was dating Kate Beckinsale," Cruz said. "I mean, you're talking 'Underworld.' You're talking, like, superhot vampire in black leather trench coat. And you're like, really? The 'SNL' dude? Like, wow."

Cruz was referring to Beckinsale's role as a vampire in the 2003 movie "Underworld." Beckinsale and Davidson dated briefly in 2019.

Cruz often comments on pop culture; on a podcast episode last year he described Thanos from "The Avengers" as a "rabid environmentalist," and in 2018 he speculated about who the Simpsons would vote for.
