Netflix removes LGBTQ tag from series about killer Jeffrey Dahmer

Netflix has apparently removed the LGBTQ tag from its Jeffrey Dahmer series following a backlash.

Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story tells the story of notorious serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, who murdered 17 men and boys, with some of the killings involving necrophilia and cannibalism.

It has already come under fire, with someone related to one of Dahmer's victims being quoted as saying it was "re-traumatising" and that some families were upset about it.

A backlash also appears to have been triggered by the programme initially being billed as LGBTQ content by the streaming service.

Several people took to Twitter to say it was in the LGBTQ category and sharing their thoughts on the classification.

"Imagine trying to find a LGBTQ show to watch on Netflix and u come across a f****** show about JEFFREY DAHMER," said one outraged viewer.

Another unimpressed person tweeted: "Keep thinking about Netflix tagging the Dahmer series as LGBTQ+ and howling. Do they genuinely think murder and cannibalism are an important part of our culture."

"Hey hi @netflix I IMPLORE you please reconsider having Dahmer with the LGBTQ tag, especially as one of its tags right when you open the app," said someone else.

One viewer asked: "Did @netflix really say #Dahmer is an LGBTQ+ film?"

"Netflix tagging the new Dahmer show with LGBTQ is insane," said another.

Jeffrey Lionel Dahmer (May 21, 1960 Ð November 28, 1994) was an American serial killer, who murdered 17 men between 1978 and 1991 (with the majority of the murders occurring between 1989 and 1991). His murders were particularly gruesome, involving rape, necrophilia and cannibalism. With evidence overwhelmingly against him, Dahmer pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. The court found Dahmer sane and guilty on 15 counts of murder and sentenced him to 15 life terms, totalling 957 years in prison. On November 28, 1994, Dahmer and another inmate were beaten to death by fellow inmate Christopher Scarver with a bar from a weight machine while on work detail in the prison gym. However, there were some viewers who felt it was accurate to label the content that way, with one saying it was "technically true".

The series is now apparently listed under other tags, but is no longer billed as LGBTQ content.

Dahmer killed 17 men and boys between 1978 and 1991. He died in 1994.

Yahoo has contacted Netflix for comment.
