An evening at the palace!

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge joined the rest of the royal family for the Diplomatic Corps reception on Wednesday evening, which is held yearly by Queen Elizabeth for ambassadors and other dignitaries.

While Prince William looked polished to a T in his tuxedo, it was his wife that truly stole the show in her navy velvet Alexander McQueen gown. The mom-of-three brought out all the stops for the white-tie evening, including her late mother-in-law's famous Lover's Knot tiara. Also known as Cambridge Lover's Knot tiara, the intricate headpiece was first owned by Queen Mary in the early 1900s and was gifted to Princess Diana in 1981.

The duchess paired the spectacular headpiece with diamond earrings and the Nizam of Hyderabad necklace, which was designed by Cartier and gifted to the queen for her wedding.

Kate's long-list of accessories doesn't end there, however. The duchess also sported a blue sash, signifying her appointment as Dame Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order (GCVO), an honor she received from Her Majesty in April. Kate joins the Duchess of Cornwall and the Countess of Wessex in the elite honor, which celebrates their dedication to the crown.

The duchess first debuted the sash this past June at a state banquet to honor President Trump. She once again wore her go-to Alexander McQueen for the evening, as well as the Lover's Knot tiara, which has become a favorite for the royal.
