Pat Sajak hasn't been on new episodes of Wheel of Fortune lately. Instead, the show's longtime letter-turning star Vanna White has temporarily taken over his hosting duties. According to the New York Post, December 9's episode marked the first time Vanna flew solo since the game show started 37 years ago.

Unfortunately, Pat had to cancel a taping in November to undergo emergency surgery to fix a blocked intestine, according to Wheel of Fortune's Instagram post.

Thankfully, on November 8, the show announced that the 73-year-old game show legend was "resting comfortably and looking forward to getting back to work." Three days later, Pat wrote on Twitter that he is "grateful" for all of the fans' encouraging words and declared that "the worst has passed."

Where is Pat Sajak now and what's the latest on his health?

After a few weeks of resting at home, Pat announced on December 5 via Twitter that he was "back in the studio taping," and it felt "nice to be back."

Even still, because he missed the taping in November, the beloved host won't be featured on the show this week or next, according to Pat himself. After that, episodes of Wheel of Fortune with Pat in them (that he taped prior to his surgery) will air for two weeks straight. For the week of January 6 though, more episodes with Vanna only (and a "special guest") will be shown. Following all of that change, Pat says that "then the planets realign, and it's back to normal."

Good to hear he's doing well again!
