Versace Remixes Jennifer Lopez's Iconic 'Jungle Dress' Print for Spring 2020

In addition to J.Lo's surprise runway appearance, Donatella Versace presented a cool-girl collection for work *and* play.

First off, let's get to this whole Jennifer Lopez closing the Versace Spring 2020 runway show in full detail, shall we?

Rumblings of a potential "big surprise" at Versace's Spring 2020 runway show on Friday night started because of the invites, which boasted the Italian house's iconic "jungle dress" print made famous by Jennifer Lopez at the 2000 Grammys. Along with the invite came a flip book that showed an animation of Googling the Versace Spring 2020 show — search bar and all. Between the fact that Google Images was pretty much invented because of searches for Lopez's original dress, along with the coincidental timing of the singer-actress's new hit movie "Hustlers," the stars may have perfectly aligned for a potential appearance by the one and only J.Lo.

As the runway show progressed, there were still no signs of Lopez, except for when her 1999 single "Waiting For Tonight" started pumping through the speakers of the Palazzo delle Scintille. Amber Valletta was the last model on the catwalk, foreshadowing what would come next. (She originally wore The Dress at Versace's Spring 2000 runway show.) The venue's lights went dark and surrounding the room were projections of a short film from Google, displaying search image results of Lopez from nearly two decades ago. "OK, Google, now show me the real jungle dress," announced the voiceover. Suddenly, the lights were back on and making her way around the circular runway was the "On the 6" superstar herself, dressed in her historic outfit with a few stylish updates: a sleeveless silhouette, added cutouts on the side, an open back and gold embellishments.

The audience jumped to their feet to document the moment, and Lopez took another victory lap with Donatella Versace herself. We have a feeling this experience will be talked about for the rest of fashion month and possibly beyond.

Aside from J.Lo's surprise runway appearance, Versace presented a cool-girl collection for work and play, comprised of strong-shouldered jackets, button-downs and little black dresses accented with the luxury brand's signature gold hardware. The offerings then took on a more casual-but-polished approach with denim, tie-dye and remixed versions of the historic "jungle dress" print in its classic green colorway and a new, punchy combo of pink, red and orange. The revamped motif covered dresses, suits, parkas and even a few mini bubble skirts. Be ready for their comeback, too, we suppose.

It was a solid mix of party-ready dresses — see the super-embellished minidress on Irina Shayk — statement suits (more tie-dye!) and downright cool ensembles to help you channel your inner Jennifer Lopez. Now excuse us while we re-watch her runway walk for the millionth time.
