Prince Harry Says His and Meghan Markle's "Life's Work" Will Be in Africa

Earlier this year, ahead of the announcement that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry would undertake a royal tour of southern Africa, rumors surfaced that the couple might go further—maybe even moving to Africa with baby Archie for a time.

At the time, Buckingham Palace issued a statement, noting, "Any future plans for The Duke and Duchess are speculative at this stage. No decisions have been taken about future roles." But royal watchers hadn't heard the couple themselves speak about the rumors, until now.

In the new ITV documentary, Harry & Meghan: An African Journey, Prince Harry addressed the reports head-on. "I don't know where we could live in Africa at the moment, you know," the royal told reporter Tom Bradby.

Harry explained, "We've just come from Cape Town. It would be an amazing place for us to be able to base ourselves, of course it would. But with all the problems that are going on there, I just don't see how we'd be able to make as much difference as we want to, without the issues and the judgement of how we would be with those surroundings."

He added, "I think It's a very hard place to live when you know what is going on and then you're, again, slightly disconnected from it."

Still, Harry made clear that Africa would continue to figure largely in his and Meghan's future. "Look, the rest of our lives, especially our life's work, will be predominantly focused on Africa, on conservation," he said. "There are a lot of things to be done. There's a lot of problems here, but there's also huge potential solutions." Watch Harry's answer below.
