Disney's New Space-Themed Restaurant Will Officially Be Called Space 220, And It'll Make You Feel Like You're Floating Above Earth

From House Beautiful

UPDATE: December 4, 2019

We have lift off! As the opening of the Space 220 Restaurant in Disney World approaches, more details about this insanely unique dining experience are emerging. The restaurant will not just be a place to eat delicious, international cuisine, it will also be an immersive space simulation.

According to a press release, the dining experience will feel like you're traveling the cosmos. "The adventure begins when a crew member invites guests to step inside the restaurant’s space elevator and prepare for liftoff. Guests will feel as if they are on a scenic excursion traveling 220 miles directly above Earth's surface." That's why the name Space 220 Restaurant is so appropriate!

The decor of the restaurant will also be on-theme, with a a spinning wall of produce (some of the same ingredients used in the food) that will mimic Earth's gravitational pull. While eating, guests can also expect to see passing satellites and floating astronauts surrounding them. You're gonna want to clear up some *space* in your calendar for vacation days, because you do not want to miss out on this.

The next time you visit Epcot, you may be able to dine in outer space. Two years after announcing a space-themed restaurant would be opening near the Mission: SPACE ride, Disney World is finally gearing up to open the doors. While there's no actual stratosphere breaking involved, from the looks of it, the dining room will look and feel like you're on a space ship.

Led by executive chef Theo Schoenegger, the restaurant falls into the category of Disney's more upscale dining venues with table service and an "internationally inspired cuisine," as you might expect of a restaurant inside Epcot. Good news for parents and any over-21 visitors: There is an extensive wine list with more than 1,000 bottles of "the world's finest wines," per a press release, plus a selection of craft beers.

The restaurant doesn't have a name yet but it is confirmed to open sometime in 2019 in between the park's Mission: SPACE and Test Track attractions, the Disney Parks Blog says. It will be operated by the Patina Restaurant Group; Disney World devotees will recognize other venues under their helm, including Tutto Italia and Via Napoli at Epcot and Morimoto Asia and Maria & Enzo's Ristorante at Disney Springs.

We don't know much else about the menu yet but Disney does promise "incredible dining experiences that are out of this world." Between that and the Zenon-vibes we're getting from the rendering of the new restaurant, we have prettyyy high hopes. Stay tuned for more updates on the forthcoming galactic spot.
