Season 5 of 9-1-1 has been one of loss. First, Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt) went M.I.A., and shortly after Chimney (Kenneth Choi) left to try to find her. Then, Michael (Rockmond Dunbar) said a tearful goodbye to his family before embarking on a long trip. Now, Eddie (Ryan Guzman) gave in his resignation for the 118. It truly is the definition of a shakeup for the hit Fox drama. But what could possibly happen next?

Naturally, 9-1-1 fans have been tuning in every Monday night to find out just that. Unfortunately, there isn't much going on right now because 9-1-1 isn’t airing new episodes anytime soon. After the shock wore off from Eddie’s announcement at the end of the latest episode, fans went on to the show’s official social media in hopes of a preview. But many discovered that there was no such thing. “No new episodes for now,” read one tweet.

When is 9-1-1 coming back to Fox in 2021?

9-1-1 is returning to Fox with new episodes in the spring of 2022. Although no official return date has been announced yet, TVLine reports that 9-1-1 will come back in March 2022.

According to the outlet, the plan was set in motion at the beginning of the fall season. Instead of having 9-1-1 and its Texas-based spinoff 9-1-1: Lone Star air back-to-back on Mondays like seasons prior, Fox decided to air one at a time. 9-1-1 season 5 premiered in September 2021. Now that it has aired its fall season finale and gone on hiatus, 9-1-1: Lone Star season 3 will take over its Monday night slot starting on January 3.

9-1-1: Lone Star will air new episodes every Monday night until NFL football wraps up. In March 2022, 9-1-1 will return and 9-1-1: Lone Star will also have new episodes, both airing back-to-back like old times. What’s more, fans can expect to see a crossover event “in the back half of the [TV] season,” per TVLine.

In the meantime, Monday nights will be showing the new travel series Gordon Ramsay's Road Trip, featuring chef Gordon Ramsay, Gino D'Acampo and Fred Sirieix. The trio will travel across the U.S. in an R.V. enjoying sights and “hidden culinary gems.”
