Yes, Jennifer Lawrence Really Just Wore Flip Flops on the Red Carpet
Jennifer Lawrence made a serious red carpet statement during this year's Cannes Film Festival, and we wouldn't be surprised if other celebs followed suit in the future.
On May 21, the Hunger Games actress attended the Anatomie D'une Chute (Anatomy Of A Fall) red carpet during the 76th annual event at Palais des Festivals in France, appearing in full Hollywood glamour in a crimson red spaghetti strap gown.
But it wasn't the dress that had people talking after the function—it was her choice of footwear, as she lifted the glamorous ensemble to reveal a pair of black flip flops instead of heels.
According to photos from earlier in the evening, the Don't Look Up star did, in fact, opt for a matching pair of red pointed toe pumps, but at some point during the event, seemingly swapped out the choice for a simpler style, making the case that comfort truly is king—no matter where you are.
Truth is when #JenniferLawrence climb up the stairs, she wore red high heels, when she climbed down the stairs (was more dangerous) she wore black flip flops♥️#Cannes2023 #Cannes #CannesFestival2023 pic.twitter.com/EsXMFWBCsH

On Twitter, some fans applauded the star for wearing what was most ideal for her, while others couldn't get on board with dressing down the stylish ensemble with the laidback sandals.
"Love the flip flops," one complimented in part, while on the other hand, someone else questioned, "What in batman and robin is going on with these flip flops? lol."

Meanwhile, in a reposted photo on Instagram, more internet users joined the conversation, adding their thoughts about the somewhat risky fashion move.
"She just wanted to be comfortable," one added, as another theorized, "She is tired of falling smart move."
A third, instead, took the opportunity to hype up the 32-year-old, writing, "It’s her carpet. We’re just admiring it 🔥🔥," and we have to agree—no matter what shoes she wore, she confidently owned the look!
