Wounded elk fights back, kills bow hunter who shot it, Oregon police say

A 66-year-old bow hunter wounded an elk on private property Saturday near Tillamook, Oregon, but lost it in the dark, Oregon State Police say.

Hunter Mark David of Hillsboro returned Sunday morning to look for the injured bull elk with the help of the property owner, police say.

David found the elk at 9:15 a.m. and tried to kill it with his bow, but the animal charged and gored him in the neck, according to police.

“The landowner attempted to help David but he sustained fatal injuries and died,” reads a release issued by police.

The elk was killed and its meat was donated to the Tillamook County jail, state police reported.
