Police release redacted footage of George Floyd's arrest incident in Minneapolis
Police have released new body camera footage from the day George Floyd was arrested by officers from the Minneapolis Police Department.
The 46-year-old African American man died in police custody after being restrained by officers.
His death has sparked outrage across the US with thousands of protesters taking to the streets of Minneapolis.
The video released by police is heavily redacted with little audio. It shows officers walking around the scene where the arrest took place with many figures blocked out.
Another video filmed by a bystander shows a white police officer with his knee on Mr Floyd's neck. The unarmed black man can be heard saying that he cannot breathe and that his stomach and neck are hurting.
Onlookers plead with the officer to let him up, but he is held in this position until an ambulance arrives. He died in hospital later on Monday.
The US attorney’s office and the FBI in Minneapolis said they are conducting “a robust criminal investigation” into the death. The FBI is also investigating whether Mr Floyd’s civil rights were violated.
Derek Chauvin, the officer who knelt on Floyd’s neck, was sacked along with three other officers involved in the arrest.
The next day, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey called for Mr Chauvin to be criminally charged.
A state of emergency has been declared as Minneapolis braces itself for more protests. Local leaders have repeatedly urged demonstrators to avoid violence.
“Please stay home. Please do not come here to protest. Please keep the focus on George Floyd, on advancing our movement and on preventing this from ever happening again,” tweeted St Paul mayor Melvin Carter, who is black.
Mr Floyd's brother Philonise Floyd struggled to hold back tears as he told CNN's New Day the officers involved in his brother's arrest should be "given the death penalty".
He said: "These guys need to be arrested, convicted of murder, and given the death penalty. They need to. They took my brother's life.
"He will never get that back. I will never see him again. My family will never see him again. His kids will never see him again."
