Woman Sues Disney World Over 'Injurious Wedgie' Received on Water Slide

A woman is suing Disney World after receiving what she refers to as an "injurious wedgie" on one of the amusement park's water slides, according to new court documents obtained by People.

Emma McGuinness wrote in the filing, submitted on Wednesday, Sept. 27, that she was visiting Typhoon Lagoon, one of the property's two Florida water parks, in Oct. 2019 when the incident occurred. Now, she and her husband, Edward McGuinness, are seeking $50,000 in damages after her ride down the Humunga Kowabunga slide landed her an ambulance ride to a local ER.

According to the publication, when Emma entered the pool at the bottom of the approximately 214-foot-tall slide, the impact into the standing water "caused Ms. McGuinness' clothing to be painfully forced between her legs and for water to be violently forced inside her."

Emma said that she "experienced immediate and severe pain internally and, as she stood up, blood began rushing from between her legs.” After being transported to a local hospital, she was transferred to another to see a specialist to repair the "gynecologic injuries."

Her attorney, Alan Wagner, claimed in the suit that “The Slide carries with it specific risks about which Disney knew or, in the exercise of reasonable care, should have known,” and that they failed to disclose those risks to their guests, including Emma.

As such, the lawyer claims that the slide carries risks that are unreasonable for Disney's guests to expect. “The Slide was unsafe and unreasonably dangerous to Ms. McGuinness and other patrons because it failed to meet the expectations of a reasonable consumer, including Ms. McGuinness,” he wrote.

The publication reached out to the park for comment but did not hear back by the time of writing.
