Turner-Smith proposed to the Cruel Intentions star during a New Year’s Eve vacation to Nicaragua. “I don’t know if she planned it or if it was a spur-of-the-moment thing, but out popped a proposal I was not expecting and the organic and instinctive answer was yes,” Jackson said to The Times.
“Six months [after the proposal], she was pregnant and we were on our way. And now we have this beautiful baby who is literally the manifestation of that love,” Jackson added. “It is impossible for me to look into the face of my child without feeling love for my wife.”
Jackson was hesitant to get married in the first place.”Partially, it’s age,” Jackson explained “I’m old enough to be able to do this. Partially it’s about finding somebody in the right moment of life.”He admitted, “If we had met five years earlier we probably would have had a torrid affair, but all the rest of this stuff, I was just not ready. I didn’t think I ever wanted to get married.”
As for Turner-Smith, she decided to keep everything a secret from the public for a reason. “Everything happened at the same time for me,” she explains to People about her romance with the Dawson’s Creek actor. “It was like, I fell in love right before I started this movie that would basically change my life, and then by the time I was putting this movie out I was pregnant, I was secretly married and I was trying to have one moment and not let the other moment overshadow it, which is why I tried to keep it secret.”
Then, says Turner-Smith, “The whole world stopped and there was a global pandemic and I got to slow down with this precious child of mine.”
In an interview with Bustle, she talked about balancing career decisions and her family. “I don’t want to sit here and be like a celebrity who’s complaining about the very ecosystem that keeps me wealthy,” she said. “But the reality is that there is an underbelly that it’s very hard to deal with.”
“I think when you create characters that people love, and you make art that people love, then it belongs to everybody, the Queen & Slim actress explained. “And then people sort of interpret that as you belong to everybody, and in a way, part of you kind of does, but you’re also a human being. You don’t belong to anybody else. I think the bottom line is, I accept the thorns that come with the rose. I accept them for me. I don’t accept them for my daughter.”
“Historically, women have always been asked to choose between being great mothers and great at their careers,” the White Noise actress noted. “Josh has always tried to maintain that I would always have all the support that I needed so that I could do both.”
