West Salem lineman Trent Ferguson commits to Oregon Ducks football
West Salem offensive lineman Trent Ferguson announced his commitment Wednesday on Twitter to play football at Oregon.
“I am excited and blessed to announce that I have committed to the University of Oregon! I want to thank all my coaches and family that helped me make my decision. I’m excited to join the flock,” Ferguson tweeted.
Ferguson, 6-foot-7 and 305 pounds, played his first season of football last fall as a junior for the Titans.
The Ducks offered Ferguson a scholarship in November after watching him play against Sheldon at the suggestion of West Salem coach Shawn Stanley.
The recruiting website 247Sports.com has Ferguson rated three stars and the fifth-best Oregon prospect in the 2024 class, which is impressive with how little high school football he’s played in his career.
Ferguson had scholarship offers from Oregon, Oregon State, Washington State, Nevada and Boise State.
Ferguson will join former West Salem offensive lineman Holden Whipple at Oregon.
The Ducks are coming off a 10-3 season, in which they won the Holiday Bowl against North Carolina.
Ferguson still has a season left with the Titans, who are hoping to bounce back after a 1-8 record last season.
“Really excited for Trent. I don’t think he could’ve gone wrong going to either of the in-state schools. They both have amazing coaching staffs and obviously a lot of positive things going on in their programs,” Stanley said. “I think he is someone that is going to be a great player in their program and would not be surprised a few years down the road if he has a chance to play on Sundays.”
