West Jefferson softball standout Brooke Mannon added another honor to her outstanding career Friday when she was named Gatorade Ohio Softball Player of the Year.

Mannon, who has signed with Arizona, was the Roughriders' top pitcher and hitter as they went 19-2 and won their first Division III district championship since 2019. They lost to eventual state runner-up Lewistown Indian Lake 5-0 in a regional semifinal.

As a pitcher, Mannon was 19-1 with a 0.32 ERA, 259 strikeouts and 13 walks in 116 2/3 innings. At the plate, the senior led the Roughriders in batting average (.569), hits (33) and home runs (5). She was named district Player of the Year and first-team all-state and is ranked as the nation’s No. 17 recruit in the class of 2023 by Extra Inning Softball.

Academically, Mannon served as vice president of both the student council and National Honor Society and maintained a 4.0 GPA. She also has volunteered as a middle school tutor and as a youth softball coach.
