Wendy’s Pulls Beloved Sandwich From Menu And Sparks Outrage On Twitter

Wendy’s just discontinued its grilled chicken sandwich and fans are not happy to see it go. The sandwich was the only non-fried chicken sandwich left to order and has instead been replaced by a new Grilled Chicken Wrap, which has gotten mixed reviews since launching.

Wendy’s Grilled Chicken Sandwich Gets Discontinued

Wendy's officially pulled the grilled chicken sandwich from the menu on March 28 as the chain launched its new menu items, like the Grilled Chicken Wrap, which means it's sadly no longer available to order. The sandwich featured an herb-marinated chicken patty topped with mayo, romaine lettuce, and tomato served on a toasted bun. It contained only 321 calories, providing a healthier menu choice compared to their fried chicken sandwiches which run between 400-700 calories, and the hamburgers which run from 400 calories up to a whopping 1200 calories (their Dave's Triple burger contains 1204 calories!).

Fans Sad To See One Less ‘Healthy Option’ On Wendy’s Menu

Loyal grilled chicken customers took to the Internet to express shock and frustration over the departed menu item. One person wrote, "The grilled chicken sandwich at Wendy’s was my jam and a somewhat healthy option. Now it’s gone, so I’m gone."

Another woman found out while ordering at her local drive-thru and asked Wendys, "Why did you betray me like this?" over its dismissal.

Someone else replied to the tweet writing, "It’s sad to hear that Wendy’s, too, has eliminated the only guilt-free sandwich from its lineup—the grilled chicken sandwich. With limited fast food options in my area, I now have zero grilled chicken sandwich drive-thru options, and my children will go without Wendy’s Kids Meals." That's a bummer!

Since the market is full of fried options and limited in "guilt-free choices" like grilled chicken sandwiches, wraps, and salads, another fan brought up an important point. They wrote in reply to the tweet, "They replaced it with a grilled chicken wrap which is a great addition but they should have both. Considering they're the only fast food place left that does grilled chicken (or salads), they have the market cornered."

This is true, their competitors—like McDonald's, Burger King, and Taco Bell—do not offer non-fried chicken options (though they have in the past). Other than Chick-fil-a and Subway, Wendy's is filling a void by keeping grilled chicken on the menu in some capacity, but they might have benefited from keeping both the sandwich and the wrap.

What Healthy Options Can I Order At Wendy’s?

As mentioned, Wendy's did introduce a grilled chicken wrap to replace the sandwich. The 420-calorie wrap features a chopped herb-marinated grilled chicken breast, shredded cheddar cheese, and romaine lettuce wrapped up with ranch sauce in a warm tortilla.

Customers interested in healthier options can also turn to Wendy's salad menu. They offer four options: the Parmesan Caesar Salad, a Cobb Salad, an Apple Pecan Salad, and a Taco Salad. You can also save some calories by ordering crispy apple bites as your side instead of fries (though we know that can be a hard bargain with Wendy's beloved sea salt fries).

There are definitely still some healthy choices on the menu, but in the meantime, we'll wait for the grilled chicken sandwich's comeback.
