Watertown's Umlauf, Sisseton's Anderson win national wrestling titles

Oliver Umlauf of Watertown and Eli Anderson of Sisseton were among the South Dakota wrestlers who captured titles over the weekend in the 2023 USA Wrestling Folkstyle Nationals at Cedar Falls, Iowa.

Umlauf went 3-0 with two pins and a 6-3 decision to capture the championship in the 8-and-under, 56-pound division.

After winning a South Dakota state title by going 12-0 with 11 pins and a technical fall, Umlauf recorded two falls and a 6-3 decision in the championship match at nationals.

Anderson went 4-0 with four falls to won the 10-and-under, 93-pound division.

Jesse Schneck of Milbank went 3-2 and placed fourth in the 16-and-under, 195-pound division and Malachi Anderson of Sisseton was 1-2 and placed seventh in the 12-and-undeer, 160-pound division.

Other area wrestlers for South Dakota included Kyle and Barrett Schneck of Milbank. Kyle went 1-2 in the 14-and-under, 106-pound division and Barrett 2-2 in the junior boys' 182-pound division.
