Watch: How Kansas City is preparing to host the 2023 NFL Draft at Union Station
When the NFL takes its annual draft “on the road” the results are dramatic. This year, on April 27-29, Kansas City will learn just what that means.
The biggest stage ever built in Kansas City has been under construction in front of Union Station for several weeks. A stage so large that engineers have shored up the parking garage below it.
Some of the streets around the station have already closed in preparation for the big event, but the building itself is still open--giving visitors and those who work inside it a sneak preview of what’s to come.
The purchasing power of the 300,000 football fans who are expected to attend has local hoteliers, restaurateurs and club owners eagerly anticipating some very busy days and nights.
And transit officials are scrambling to insure that buses, streetcars and shuttles are ready to move large numbers of people quickly and efficiently through a relatively small area.
