Watch this aerial tour to see KC Current stadium being built at Berkley Riverfront Park
Construction is well underway at the Kansas City Current’s new, $117 million, state-of-the-art stadium, which is taking shape and attracting attention in Berkley Riverfront Park in downtown Kansas City.
The soccer-specific venue, which was privately-funded, sits on the banks of the Missouri river, and is on track to open next spring for the first home match of the KC Current’s 2024 season. The stadium will be the first stadium built for a women’s professional sports team and the first for a National Women’s Soccer League franchise.
Grandstands have been installed and will allow seating for 11,500 fans where no seat is said to be more than 100 feet from the field. The stadium will have panoramic views of Kansas City, the Missouri river and the Bond Bridge. There will be 12 luxury suites, plus an ownership suite.
Construction crews are working now on the pitch installation, which will continue through August, when crews will then begin with scoreboard and seat installation in the fall.
The KC Current stadium has spurred more development along the riverfront and on Monday, the Port Authority of Kansas City along with Kansas City Current announced plans to develop about 10 acres at Berkley Riverfront park into a “high-density, diverse and walkable neighborhood” over the next ten years.
