Walsh Jesuit opens baseball season with a win; Archbishop Hoban earns softball victory

BASEBALL

Walsh Jesuit 5, Whitehouse Anthony Wayne 2

Junior right-handed pitcher Drew Erdmann limited Wayne (1-1) to two runs and two hits over five innings in WJ's season-opening victory Friday in the quarterfinals of the PBR Jerry Baumgartner Invitational Tournament in Toledo.

Erdmann, a University of Cincinnati recruit, earned the win. Senior Andrew Gormley, a University of Charleston recruit worked two scoreless innings and allowed one hit to get the save.

WJ senior Henry Kaczmar, a University of Michigan recruit, hit two singles, had two RBIs and scored once. Senior Kasey Kish ripped a double and junior Topher Salek hit a single and scored.

SOFTBALL

Hoban 12, Cuyahoga Falls 0

The host Knights (3-1) scored six runs apiece in the second and fourth innings to top the Black Tigers (0-1).

Hoban pitchers Faith Porter and Robyn Ryan combined to limit Falls to one hit in the five-inning game and Ellie Hardman hit a home run.

Hoban's Lacie Quarles hit a single and a double and had two RBIs, Kennedy Bray added two hits, one RBI and scored once, and Lexi Hart ripped a triple and had two RBIs.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Copley 14, Western Reserve Academy 7

Maria Montisano and Lela Plouse combined to score nine goals and Val D’Amico had two assists to lead visiting Copley (2-1) to a victory.
