See who readers picked as the Savannah Morning News Fall Sports Athlete of the Week
There has been plenty of action on the fall sports front in the Greater Savannah area in the past week.
Savannah Christian clinched its first softball region title since 2013 with a win over Long County on Tuesday, and the Richmond Hill volleyball team won its second consecutive Region 1-7A crown on Saturday. The South Effingham softball team evened up its series with cross-county rival Effingham with a win on Wednesday.
Savannah Morning News readers selected the Fall Sports Athlete of the Week and chose Savannah Christian softball player Ava Rolen as the winner. The senior took home 43.53 % of the vote.
Sarah Messex of the South Effingham softball team was second with 32.76 % of the vote, and Maya Swenson of the Islands volleyball team finished third with 14.99 % of the vote.

Jillian Austin, Savannah Christian softball
The sophomore earned the win as SCPS beat Long County 3-2 on Wednesday to clinch the Region 3-3A title. She threw a complete game, allowing just one earned run and fanning eight batters, while going 1 for 3 at the plate.
Sarah Messex, South Effingham softball
The senior went 2 for 3 with a homer and two RBIs in a 2-0 win over Effingham on Wednesday, and had another round tripper and three RBI in a win over Lakeside Friday. She is hitting .352 with five homers and 24 RBIs on the year for the Mustangs (23-4).
Ava Rolen, Savannah Christian softball
The senior went 3 for 3 with all three RBIs for the Raiders in the win over Long County.
Maya Swenson, Islands volleyball
The junior libero had seven digs, 15 serves received and five aces in a non-region win over Richmond Hill on Tuesday.
Savannah Davis, Richmond Hill volleyball
The senior outside hitter has played a big role again this season with the Wildcats, who won their second consecutive Region 1-7A title on Saturday. She leads the team with 197 kills and has 45 aces, 15 blocks, 151 digs and 230 serves received on the year.
Mary Sophia Fischer, St. Vincent's
The senior setter has been a leader for an SVA squad that is 24-11-1 on the year. She had 368 assists, 42 kills, 70 aces and 97 digs on the year.
Katie Cowart, Savannah Christian volleyball
Cowart dished out 17 assists and added five digs in a win over Savannah Country Day.
Brownette Olson, The Habersham School
The sophomore is have an impressive season for the Patriots. She leads the team with 241 kills and has 57 aces, 165 digs and 168 serves received on the year.
