Meet this week's Louisville high school boys athlete of the week from Male High

Demetrius White came up big last week to get Male to the Seventh Region quarterfinals.

And the effort was appreciated by Bulldogs fans, who helped him win this week's Courier Journal boys athlete of the week with nearly 7,000 votes.

White had 19 points and six rebounds in an 82-51 victory over Atherton, right up there with some of the area's best performances last week during regional tournaments.

Be sure to check back Monday morning to vote again for The Courier Journal's boys athlete of the week. Polls close Thursdays at 6 p.m. Winners are announced every Friday.

Male advanced to Sunday's Seventh Region semifinals in large part thanks to the white-hot shooting of Edelen, who made an impressive 7 of 11 3-pointers in an 82-51 win over Atherton in the first round last week. The freshman finished with 23 points and a rebound.

Alberto Franco, Central basketball

The Yellow Jackets, coming off a 25th District championship defeat, lost in a thriller to Ballard in the first round of the Seventh Region tournament, 91-83 in overtime, but boy did Franco come out to play. The senior had a team-high 30 points and added 10 rebounds in the loss.
