Virginia Shore election: Robert Bloxom Jr. retains House of Delegates seat
Delegate Robert Bloxom Jr. was on track Wednesday to comfortably win re-election to the Virginia House of Delegates as Republicans celebrate their sweep of top statewide offices in Tuesday's election.
The GOP delegate, who was first elected to his 100th District seat in 2014, was on track to defeat his Democratic opponent, Finale M. Norton, with a majority of votes counted in both Accomack and Northampton counties.
The district includes all of the Eastern Shore and parts of Norfolk City. With 34 of 38 precincts reporting, Bloxom was leading Norton by a 57% to 42% margin, according to the unofficial tally posted by the Virginia Department of Elections on its website.
Statewide, Republican businessman Glenn Youngkin defeated former Gov. Terry McAuliffe in the governor's race; Winsome Sears bested Democrat Hala Ayala to become the nation’s fourth Black female lieutenant governor and Republican Jason Miyares was leading Democrat Mark Herring to become the Old Dominion's next and first Cuban American attorney general.
Voter turnout was higher than expected, especially among Republicans, with ABC News estimating a vote total of 3.3 million. That far exceeded the 2.6 million votes cast in 2017 and the 2.2 million votes in 2013, a USA TODAY report said.

Voters on the Eastern Shore also elected several county and town officials .
In Northampton County, two of the three supervisors retained their seats, while there was an upset in the District 2 race which saw incumbent David Fauber lose to Ernest L. Smith Jr.
Shore voters also elected members of local school boards and town councils in Parksley, Chincoteague, Cape Charles and Cheriton.
