In celebration of the 100th anniversary of National Fire Prevention Week, the Victorville Fire Department will host an open house at Fire Station 315.

The event is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the first station located at 12820 Eucalyptus Street near Sunset Ridge Park south of Bear Valley Road.

At the open house, members of the fire department will greet visitors, give tours, and share fire safety tips. There will be free food and giveaways.

Fire Station 315 finally opened in 2021 after it hadn't been staffed since its construction in 2009.

The opening of the station primarily benefits residents in the Sunset Ridge area of the city.

Though the station was built in 2009, it never opened due to “financial issues primarily resulting from the Great Recession,” city officials said.

About National Fire Prevention Week

This year’s FPW campaign, “Fire won’t wait. Plan your escape,” works to educate everyone about simple but important actions they can take to keep themselves and those around them safe from home fires.

Today’s homes burn faster than ever. Residents may have as little as two minutes, or even less, to safely escape a home fire from the time the smoke alarm sounds.

Your ability to get out of a home during a fire depends on an early warning from smoke alarms and advance planning.
