Vanderbilt football quarterback AJ Swann trending towards playing vs. South Carolina
Vanderbilt football quarterback AJ Swann practiced Tuesday and is "heading in the right direction" to play against South Carolina, coach Clark Lea said.
Swann sustained an injury during the third quarter of the Oct. 22 game at Missouri and did not return. The Commodores (3-5, 0-4 SEC) lost, 17-14.
According to Lea, Swann still needs to make it through the week of practice, but things are trending well for Swann's return on Saturday (6:30 p.m. CT, SEC Network). Swann was listed as the top quarterback on the program's depth chart for the week, ahead of juniors Mike Wright and Ken Seals.
Swann took over as starter against Northern Illinois in September. In seven games, Swann has completed 57.7% of his passes with eight touchdowns to one interception.
Lea said other players who missed the Missouri game with injuries, including safety Steven Sannieniola, running back Chase Gillespie, guard Ben Cox and edge rusher Darren Agu, are expected to be available for the Gamecocks but it is too early to say for sure. All four players are on the depth chart this week.
