Tyrese Maxey discusses shooting struggles since returning to Sixers

PHILADELPHIA–Before he misses 18 games due to a left foot fracture, Philadelphia 76ers guard Tyrese Maxey was shooting the lights out at 42.2% from deep on 6.8 attempts from beyond the arc.

In seven games since his return, Maxey is shooting just 30.6% from deep on 5.1 attempts. After shooting just 0-for-4 from beyond the arc in Thursday’s loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder, he addressed his shooting struggles.

“I think it’s just trying to get back to it,” he said. “When you miss so much time, it’s hard to just find like—I think my touch is coming back slowly, but the deep ball is struggling right now, but I’m not too worried about it. I put in a lot of work. They’ll start falling eventually, and when they do, I’ll be back happy.”

Maxey has a point. He missed so much basketball that he has to be able to work his way back into things at his pace. There is going to be an adjustment period for him as he works his way back and gets his rhythm back.

However, he had better find it quickly. With the Sixers going back to their regular starting lineup, they need Maxey to be able to produce as he normally does on the offensive end. It will be a struggle for him defensively in certain matchups, like Thursday, so he has to be able to score the ball at an efficient clip.
