Two firefighters fell through burned hole in West Dennis blaze
WEST DENNIS − Two firefighters fighting a blaze on Monday morning at a four-unit apartment complex were hurt when they fell through a burned-out hole into the basement, according to a press release from the fire department.
At 10:14 a.m., Dennis firefighters responded to a structure fire at 475 Route 28, finding smoke from one of the units when they arrived. One firefighter fell upon entering the house, said fire officials.
A mayday was then announced and a request for a second alarm was struck.
Other firefighters pried open a rear bulkhead door leading to the basement. The firefighter made his way over to the stairs where he was assisted out of the basement. But moments later, a second firefighter slipped through the hole and got tangled in some wires preventing him from going into the basement.

One firefighter was transported to Cape Cod Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries while the other was evaluated at the scene.
The two-story wood frame apartment was unoccupied at the time of the fire. The occupant works a night shift and had not returned home yet. Firefighters stretched three handlines to contain the fire and threw ladders to the second floor to exit.
Dennis fire received assistance from Yarmouth, Harwich, Brewster, Chatham, Hyannis and Orleans, while the Centerville, Osterville and Marstons Mills departments and the Barnstable department covered the Dennis stations during the fire, according to the press release. State police assigned to the State's Fire Marshall's Office, along with members of the ATF, were called to investigate the fire.
The cause of the fire is undetermined, but has been deemed non-suspicious. All indicators point towards an electrical problem in the hallway wall.
