Jackson area high school football Week 15 roundup: Westview, McKenzie advance, Haywood eliminated

Here is a look at what happened in the semifinals of the TSSAA football playoffs in the Jackson area on Friday:

Westview 35, Riverside 18: For the first time since 2001, the Chargers (13-1) are advancing to the Class 2A state championship game. Alabama commit Ty completed 15-of-22 passes for 250 yards and four touchdowns. Riverside led 18-14 going into halftime but would be outscored 21-0 in the second half. At one point in the second half, Simpson threw three touchdowns on three consecutive passes (all to Quincy Hamilton). Simpson also had 99 yards and a 47-yard touchdown run on 12 carries. Westview will play Hampton at 3 p.m. CT Saturday, Dec. 4 at Chattanooga's Finley Stadium.

WESTVIEW ADVANCES TO STATE TITLE GAME: Ty Simpson, Quincy Hamilton lead Westview football to first championship game in 20 years

Tullahoma 44, Haywood 19: The Tomcats' season came to an end just a game short of making their second consecutive Class 4A championship game. Arkansas commit Jaylen Lewis had two receiving touchdowns and Haywood (13-1) led 16-7 halfway through the second quarter. The Tomcats were outscored 37-3 over the next two and a half quarters. The 19 points represent their second lowest scoring output this season.

McKenzie 36, Peabody 30: In a match of two 1A Mr. Football finalists, Marquez Taylor helped McKenzie advance to its first state championship game since 2007. Taylor scored four rushing touchdowns and one receiving touchdown. Khalik Ganaway scored on a 45-yard touchdown. McKenzie will play South Pittsburg at 3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3.
