TSSAA basketball championships: Live updates, Westview, McMinn Central in 2A championship

MURFREESBORO – Welcome to the final day of the TSSAA girls basketball season.

Four state champions will be crowned at Middle Tennessee State's Murphy Center today on the final day of the TSSAA BlueCross Girls Basketball State Championships.

Westview girls basketball repeats as Class 2A state champion

Westview won its second straight TSSAA Class 2A state championship on Saturday, beating McMinn Central 56-37 to close out the Tennessee high school girls basketball season.

MTSU signee Jada Harrison and teammate McCall Simms each scored 17 points in the win. And Mary Anna Chester had 12.

Karina Bystry led McMinn Central with 15 points. Teammate Molly Masingale had eight.

Westview finished the season 33-1.

Westview leads by nine after three quarters

Westview is eight minutes from a second straight Class 2A girls basketball state championship.

Westview leads McMinn Central 37-28 after the third quarter. McCall Simms has 15 points and Jada Harrison has 10 for Westview.

Karina Bystry has 10 for McMinn Central.

Westview leads McMinn Central at halftime, closing in on repeat

Westview leads McMinn Central 25-16 at halftime of the Class 2A state championship behind McCall Simms' 10 points. MTSU signee Jada Harrison and Mary Anna Chester each have six for Westview.

Karina Bystry leads McMinn Central with five.

The two teams have combined to hit 10-of-43 3-pointers in the first half.

McCall Simms has seven points for Westview, which leads McMinn Central 12-7 in the Class 2A state championship game. Teammate Kylee Alexander has three. Karina Bystry has five to pace McMinn Central.

Westview is the defending Class 2A state champions.

McKenzie captures second straight TSSAA Class 1A state title

In one of the more impressive shooting performances of the girls state tournament, McKenzie captured its second straight Class 1A state title, beating Wayne County for the second time in the championship game, 71-54, Saturday.

McKenzie shot 56.5% from the field, led by Savannah Davis' 31 points and seven 3-pointers. Mikaela Reynolds added 16 points and Miss Basketball finalist Kylie Reynolds added 13. McKenzie, as a team, shot 11-of-14 from the 3-point line for 78.6%.

Wayne County's Blair Baugus, another Miss Basketball finalist, led the Lady Wildcats with 15 points and five rebounds.

Davis had eight points, including two more 3-pointers to give McKenzie a commanding 51-39 lead against Wayne County after the third quarter.

Davis has 23 points and has seven 3-pointers to lead McKenzie. Both Kylie and Mikaela Reynolds have 13 points.

Wayne County is led by Blair Baugus' 13 points.

McKenzie's hot shooting leads to 37-27 halftime lead

McKenzie hasn't cooled off after a torrid first quarter. It's shooting 56% from the field and a scorching 70% from behind the 3-point line to keep Wayne County at arm's length after two quarters.

Savannah Davis had 15 points, including five treys in the first half. Miss Basketball finalist Kylie Reynolds has 11 points and three rebounds, while Wayne County's own Miss Basketball candidate, Blair Baugus, has nine points for the Lady Wildcats.

High-scoring first quarter favors McKenzie

McKenzie has shown its ability to knock down the perimeter shots, going 4-for-5 from behind the 3-point arc in the first quarter while holding a 20-14 lead at the end of the period.

Savannah Davis leads McKenzie with nine points, including three of those four triples. Miss Basketball finalist Kylie Reynolds has six points. Wayne County is led by Jacqueline Keaton who has six points.

Bradley Central wins TSSAA Class 4A state championship over Bartlett

For the seventh time in their history, the Bears of Bradley Central of state champions.

Bradley Central defeated Bartlett, 58-49, in the TSSAA Class 4A final Saturday to finish off a 35-1 season.

The Panthers, seeking their first-ever state championship, came within 44-39 with three minutes to play. But Kimora Fields' 18 points and Avary Brewer's 16 were enough to hold them off.

Nevaeh Scott scored 15 points for Bartlett, while Miss Basketball finalist Mallory Collier had eight points and 10 rebounds.

Bradley Central extends its lead on Bartlett in third quarter

Bradley Central pushed its lead as high as 14 points before heading into the fourth quarter of the Class 4A title game with a 38-28 advantage over Bartlett.

The Panthers' Carrington Jones led a 7-0 spurt midway through the period, but a 3-pointer by Avary Brewer and a technical foul on Bartlett coach Wes Shappley, after which Brewer hit both free throws, pushed momentum back in the Bears' direction.

Bradley Central leads Bartlett after low-scoring second quarter

Bradley Central leads Bartlett 21-16 at halftime of the TSSAA Class 4A state championship game.

Nevaeh Scott and her 11 points have kept the Panthers in it, but they're shooting just 30% from the field. Miss Basketball finalist Mallory Collier has been held scoreless, missing all three of her shots.

Kimora Fields has nine points for the Bears but didn't score in the second quarter.

Bradley Central is seeking its seventh state championship and Bartlett is going for its first.

Bradley Central leading Bartlett after first quarter in 4A title game

Star freshman forward Kimora Fields scored nine points to lead Bradley Central to a 16-10 lead over Bartlett after one quarter in the TSSAA Class 4A state championship game.

The Panthers have led just once. Center Mallory Collier, a North Carolina State signee, hasn't scored and has been hit with two personal fouls already.

Nevaeh Scott has nine of Bartlett's 10 points.

The Bears are shooting 64% from the field.

Crown Jackson South Side: TSSAA Class 3A girls basketball state champions

Jackson South Side won its first TSSAA girls basketball state championship on Saturday, beating Livingston Academy 62-52 to complete a 34-0 season.

Jaidynn Askins scored a team-high 19 points and Albany Collins had 18 and was 4-of-4 from the 3-point line.

Teammate Ti'mia Lawson, the Class 3A state tournament MVP, had 15 points, seven rebounds and seven assists.

Ellie Butler led Livingston Academy with a game-high 26 points, including 10-of-11 from the free throw line. Halle Ledbetter and Keely Mullins had nine apiece.

South Side leads Livingston after 3 quarters, approaching first title

Jackson South Side leads Livingston Academy 43-35 after three quarters and is eight minutes from lifting the gold ball for the first time in school history.

Albany Collins has 16 points and is 4-of-4 from the 3-point line for the Lady Hawks. Jaidynn Askins has 11 and Ti'mia Lawson has 10.

Ellie Butler has a game-high 17 points on 6-of-13 shooting for Livingston Academy.

Livingston answers, trims lead to 5 at halftime

Ellie Butler has a game-high 11 points for Livingston Academy and South Side's lead is just 24-19 at halftime.

Jaidynn Askins has seven and Albany Collins has two 3-pointers for six points for South Side, which is seeking its first state championship.

South Side up 13-4 after first quarter

Jackson South Side has a 13-4 lead after the first quarter in the TSSAA girls basketball state championship game with Livingston Academy. South Side is seeking its first state championship. The Lady Hawks were runner-up in 2022.

Ti'mia Lawson has five points and two assists for South Side. Ellie Butler has three for Livingston and the team's lone field goal.
