Top Gun: Maverick star Jennifer Connelly has teased fans about what to expect from the long-awaited sequel, admitting there will be "extraordinary" flying scenes.

The movie will see Connelly take up the role of Penny Benjamin, who acts as Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell's (Tom Cruise) love interest.

Speaking about the movie's flying scenes – and we are certainly expecting a few – the Oscar-winner told Extra: "Those flying sequences are going to be so extraordinary.

"I think it is a movie that would be great to see on big screens, if and when we can get back there."

During the chat, Connelly also spoke about working with Cruise, admitting: "I've never seen anyone work harder, be more committed to his work. Nothing is taken for granted. Every moment is an opportunity to do all that he can do to deliver the best thing that he can possibly deliver.

"I've never been more paranoid about knowing my lines," she added. "This is a tight ship. It adds a degree of pressure because he's so prepared, all of the time."

Meanwhile, producer Jerry Bruckheimer recently revealed that Cruise put the movie's younger stars through a "gruelling" training programme.

"He put the actors through this gruelling process over three months so they could take the G-forces when we put them in the F/A-18s," he said.

"It was really a tough slog for these young actors because they also had to go through water survival training, where they are blindfolded and put in a water tank that’s turned upside down and they have to figure out how to get out."

"And Tom went through all the same stuff! They told me he went through that training just like a 22-year-old would – that's how good he is."

Top Gun: Maverick will open in cinemas on December 23.
