Toledo's Yariel Gonzalez earns Triple-A East player of the week honor
Jul. 13—Toledo Mud Hens infielder Yariel Gonzalez was named Triple-A East player of the week on Monday.
He is the first member of the Mud Hens to receive the award this season.
In Toledo's six-game series against Omaha, Gonzalez went 8-for-15 with three extra-base hits, including two home runs, and seven RBIs. One of his homers came against the Kansas City Royals' No. 2 prospect, Daniel Lynch.
Gonzalez started the season at Double-A Erie and was quickly moved up after six games.
With Toledo, he is batting .293 with six doubles, 12 home runs, 36 RBIs, and 28 runs scored in 46 games.
Combing his stats from Erie and Toledo, he is on pace to set career highs for a season in on-base percentage (.361), slugging (.561), and on-base plus slugging (.922). He has 14 combined home runs this year, one away from his 15 in all of 2019.
The Mud Hens (32-26) open a six-game homestand against the Iowa Cubs (24-33) at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday at Fifth Third Field.
