Tim Corbin: Ryan Ginther out for Vanderbilt baseball in SEC Tournament with injury

HOOVER, Ala. — Vanderbilt baseball got more bad injury news Friday, as left-handed reliever Ryan Ginther got "dinged up" while warming in the bullpen and will be unavailable for the remainder of the SEC Tournament, coach Tim Corbin said on the radio broadcast prior to the Commodores' elimination game against Alabama.

Ginther has been one of Vanderbilt's most trusted relievers this season with a 2-0 record and 3.03 ERA in 32⅔ innings. He made his first career start against Arkansas last Saturday and pitched four innings, allowing two unearned runs.

The Commodores have been dealing with injuries throughout the second half of the season. Starter Carter Holton and relievers Andrew Dutkanych and Colton Regen were already out for the SEC Tournament, while starter Hunter Owen and relievers Jack Anderson and Grayson Moore are returning from injuries.

According to Corbin, Ginther was set to be the first person out of the bullpen during Thursday's loss to Florida. Instead, David Horn and Bryce Cunningham finished the game.

Ginther's absence leaves the Commodores with likely seven available pitchers for the remainder of the tournament with as many as three games still to play. Vanderbilt faces elimination Friday against Alabama; the winner of that game advances to the semifinals.
