Tigua tribe have done a lot more than any city council: Letters to the editor
Keep Lincoln Center the same
It is a great idea that the Mexican American Cultural Institute (MACI) has picked the Lincoln Center to be its national headquarters. I think it will benefit the local area tremendously. I disagree with how the building will look once renovations are completed. The renderings that were shown do not do justice in keeping with the originality of the building.
It's a shame that people fought to save the building from demolition, but the renovations will make it look like a completely new building anyway.

Make El Paso Zoo a family-fun destination
I wish the city of El Paso would allocate more funding to the El Paso Zoo. We need to make the Zoo a destination for families to go to. In other cities, San Diego and Cincinnati, zoos are one of the main places that you must visit if you are visiting the city. Why can't our Zoo be the same way?

Robotic dogs in the picture expect others to do the same
Customs and Border Enforcement are testing robotic "dogs" to patrol the Southwest border with Mexico, according to the Department of Homeland Security. This seems like a dystopian nightmare in a science fiction movie. Is this where we want law enforcement to go? Because if it's "useful" on the border, expect other local law enforcement agencies to do the same, as they have with leftover weapons of war.

No substitute for real dogs
Why does the Border Patrol need robotic dogs when the agency already has real dogs, not fake high-tech canine prototypes.
These robotic dogs would save the Border Patrol a lot of money, as they wouldn't have to be clothed, fed, or paid like agents are. But I can't help but believe that the Border Patrol and the American people would be short-changed somehow.
Accept no substitutes for real dogs. Besides, these mechanical canines don't have teeth!

Give Tigua tribe disputed land
Does anyone remember the city's plan to bring the 'great big bad wolf lodge' to El Paso? A little history, the city leadership traded 44 acres of prime city land for 2,313 acres from the Painted Dunes Golf Course to try and bring the Great Wolf Lodge to El Paso. How did that work out for the city of El Paso? What did it end up costing the taxpayer?
That city leadership plan has been abandoned. Now, moving forward to 2022, the city fights the Tiguas over 100 acres? What has the Tigua tribe done for El Paso? The Tigua have done a lot more than any city council, county, or state leadership for the community of El Paso!
What has the city done with these 100 acres to improve El Paso? Common sense says the city should deed this property over to the Tiguas. They have proven what they can do to help El Paso prosper.
Plus, how's that plan for the Downtown arena coming?
Are people worried that El Paso Water will not move Downtown? El Paso's leadership has run-off all the major business here. It is sad what has happened to El Paso.
Who has really dropped the ball is our state elected representatives in Austin. They should have cleared this up years ago. Legalize gambling on tribal land. The state has legal gambling, scratch off tickets that expire if not claimed in 90 days.

Who is Mayorkas trying to kid?
Dept. of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas rides into town and boldly claims that the reason for record number of illegal crossings is due to the pandemic in these people's countries. Who the hell is he trying to kid? He obviously thinks that the Border Patrol and people of El Paso are dumb and uniformed. We all know that the reason for this situation is because of the Biden Administration's open border policy, the lack of consequences, and the reward of receiving everything free!
Mayorkas, please get out of town and tell your story to someone who cares.
