Teenage motorcyclist dies after crashing into car in west Eugene

Jerry Bruce Mitchell Sr., 53, of Long Beach, California, was arrested March 9, 2024, by California Highway Patrol officers after a 45-minute high-speed pursuit.

An 18-year-old motorcyclist died after crashing into the side of a car in west Eugene Monday night, according to Eugene police.

The motorcyclist was identified Tuesday afternoon as Dylan Mathew Roberts, of Veneta, Eugene police spokeswoman Melinda McLaughlin said. Police responded to calls at 7:40 p.m. Monday that a Kawasaki ZR8 motorcycle crashed into the driver's side of a Nissan Altima that was leaving a credit union near the intersection of West 11th Avenue and Bailey Hill Road, McLaughlin said.

Roberts was found deceased upon arrival. The Nissan driver, a 46-year-old Eugene man, was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Investigators believe speed was contributed to the crash, and no impairment of the sedan driver was detected, McLaughlin said. There are no charges being considered in the case, she noted.
