Ted Lasso and AFC Richmond Make 'FIFA 23' Debut in New Trailer — See Roy, Jamie, Sam and More in CGI Action

It’s not a Season 3 premiere date, but it’s the next best thing.

EA Sports announced Wednesday that Ted Lasso‘s AFC Richmond will be playable in “FIFA 23″ starting Friday, Sept. 30. The above trailer features introductions by live-action Trent Crimm (James Lance) and Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein), then showcases the Bantr-backed Richmond in CGI action, as coaches Lasso (Jason Sudeikis) and Beard (Brendan Hunt) watch from the sidelines.

“I am truly fortunate, and deeply grateful, to have had many special moments in my career thus far, and I consider this experience among the best of them,” Sudeikis said in a statement. “As longtime fans of ‘EA SPORTS FIFA,’ having Ted Lasso and the whole AFC Richmond squad incorporated into the newest version of the game is truly a dream come true for myself and the rest of the fellas. Our cast and crew work tremendously hard on this show, and we are flattered that it resonates with so many folks. We look forward to our fans having the opportunity to play with, play as, and even play against their favorite AFC Richmond characters.”

Added Goldstein: “It is so f–king cool to be in FIFA. ‘’m not sure this is going to help dispel the CGI rumours but f–k it, totally worth it. I look forward to beating my nephew in a game with me as Roy Kent and him as Jamie Tartt. He’s gonna be furious.”

Interestingly, retired player-turned-assistant coach Roy is out on the pitch, alongside fellow footballers Jamie Tartt (Phil Dunster), Sam Obisanya (Toheeb Jimoh), Isaac McAdoo (Kola Bokinni) and Dani Rojas (Cristo Fernández). We’ll assume this is not a Season 3 spoiler, but a way to incorporate Roy into the game.

Apple TV+ has yet to confirm that Ted Lasso is ending with Season 3 — though select cast members have suggested the end is nigh. “It was planned as three [seasons],” Goldstein said as recently as June. “Spoiler alert: everyone dies.”

Sudeikis, Hunt and fellow co-creator Bill Lawrence had always envisioned a three-season run. But as recently as Sept. 12, Sudeikis seemed less certain.

“I don’t know,” Sudeikis told reporters after the series clinched its second consecutive Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series. “It’s up to more factors than myself. The response to the show has been overwhelming. We have a tremendous group of writers, we have a tremendous group of actors, we have tremendous people in production, post production… all of those things are thrown into the jambalaya of possibility, so I couldn’t say yes or no.”
