Taran Armstrong, Cal Baptist transfer with Xavier as finalist, to go pro, per report
Cal Baptist transfer Taran Armstrong, a 6-foot-6 point guard considered by many to be one of the best passers in college basketball, reportedly had considered Xavier among his four finalists, but instead will turn professional, according to a Crystal Ball prediction from 247sports.com's Travis Branham.
On3sports' Joe Tipton had reported that Gonzaga and Big East rivals Creighton and Providence also were finalists.
Armstrong, who is from Australia and played at the NBA Global Academy there, has played the past two seasons at the WAC school. He averaged 11.3 points, 4.5 rebounds and 5 assists in 29.5 minutes per game in 33 games as a sophomore after averaging 10.5 points, 5.2 rebounds and 6.3 assists in 32.2 minutes per game in 26 games as a freshman, earning WAC Freshman of the Year honors.
In 2021, then-freshman Armstrong broke Cal Baptist's single-game assists record with 15.
Xavier has added North Texas' Abou Ousmane, Western Kentucky's Dayvion McKnight, Rice's Quincy Olivari and Indiana's Logan Duncomb, a former Moeller High School standout, via the transfer portal.
