Successful youth wrestler continues winning ways
Hailey Delgado, one of El Paso's best amateur wrestlers, continues to shine.
This past weekend, Delgado qualified for the U15 Pan American Games in Panama in November by qualifying at the Pan American Team Trials in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Delgado will be competing in her first international competition and has already won seven national championships in her career.
She qualified for the Pan American Games in the 42 KG division.
"It's exciting to be going to Panama, it was a great tournament and there was great competition," Delgado said. "I learned a great deal and qualifying for the international competition was certainly a goal of mine."
Delgado went 2-1 in her weight class placing first which put her into the best of three series against Sofia Paris, where she won the series to earn her spot in Panama.
Delgado wrestles for NXT Level Wrestling Academy and preparing with them played a key role in her success in Colorado Springs according to Delgado.
Delgado comes from a wrestling family. Her older brother, Isaiah, is a former two-time wrestling champion at Eastwood and this past season qualified for the NCAA Tournament as a wrestler at Utah Valley University.
"My brother has taught me a lot," said Delgado, who is an eighth-grader at Eastwood Middle School. "I just want to continue to grow as a wrestler and keep working hard to be the best I can be."
