Subject of The Blind Side Alleges the Story was a Lie
Former NFL offensive tackle, Michael Oher, petitioned in a Tennessee court with allegations that much of the 2009 film The Blind Side was a lie.
Winning Sandra Bullock an Oscar, The Blind Side depicts the story of Michael Oher, who went from poverty to the NFL via the help of the Tuohys, who adopted him. ESPN reported that a 14-page petition was filed alleging that Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy never adopted Oher, and instead, he was tricked into signing a document when he was newly 18 that made the Tuohys his conservators.
The allegations also state that this conservatorship allowed the Tuohys to strike a deal that paid them and their two children, Collins and Sean Tuohy Jr, millions in royalties from the film. It is said that Michael, himself, received nothing.
The filing states: "Michael Oher discovered this lie to his chagrin and embarrassment in February of 2023, when he learned that the Conservatorship to which he consented on the basis that doing so would make him a member of the Tuohy family, in fact provided him no familial relationship with the Tuohys".
Sean Tuohy told the Daily Memphian the family "didn't make any money off the movie," and "we're going to love Michael at 37 just like we loved him at 16".
