Spring break camps in Tuscaloosa offer learning opportunities for kids

Spring break is coming up less than two weeks in the Tuscaloosa area. For parents still looking for things for their kids to do over the weeklong break, here are some ideas:

Acting

The Tuscaloosa Children's Theatre will have a spring break camp March 14-18.

Campers will work on acting, singing and dancing as they rehearse a musical, "Winnie the Pooh Kids." Every camper will be cast in the 30-minute production. The camp is open to children 5- to 18 years old and requires no previous stage experience.

The cost is $250 per camper.

The camp will be held from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. March 14-18 at the Tuscaloosa Children's Theatre, 601 Energy Center Blvd. in Northport. A family performance is scheduled at 10 a.m. March 19.

Art

Art Garage, 2422 Sixth St. in downtown Tuscaloosa, will host a spring break mini-camp March 15-16 for 4- to 12-year-olds.

The mini-camp will be held from 10 a.m. until noon and campers will complete several art projects.

The cost is $70 per child, with Art Garage members receiving a 10% discount.

Baseball

Shelton State Community College will host a spring break baseball camp March 14-17.

The camp is for for 6- to 14-year-olds and costs $100.

Clay

The Kentuck Art Center will offer a spring break clay camp for 6- to 10-year-old children .

Students will explore a variety of techniques to create functional and/or sculptural artworks.

The camp will be held from 1-3 p.m. March 14-16 at Kentuck Art Center's Georgine Clarke Building, 503 Main Ave. The cost is $150, which includes supplies.

PARA

The Tuscaloosa County Park and Recreation Authority will offer a spring break camp for students in kindergarten through sixth grade.

Activities will include arts and crafts, organized games, swimming and more, led by camp staff.

The camp will be March 14-18 at the Phelps Center, 2200 Rock Quarry Drive, and at the Tingle Center, 21973 Alabama Highway 216 in McCalla. Hours are 7 a.m.-5:30 p.m.

The cost is $20 per day per child. Campers must bring a lunch, three drinks and two snacks
