Sports scores, highlights: Somerset girls basketball breaks out in the fourth quarter
The winter high school season is midway through the season for Fall River area teams.

Girls basketball: Westport at Somerset Berkley
SCORE: Somerset Berkley 67, Westport 49
LOCATION: Somerset Berkley
DATE: Jan. 30
RECORD: Somerset Berkley, 8-6 (8-2 in South Coast Conference), Westport, 10-2 (2-1 in Mayflower Comprehensive)
HIGHLIGHTS: The Raiders broke open a tie game in the fourth and went on to beat visiting non-league opponent Westport. Mia Gentile led all scorers with a game-high 23 points. Teammate Gabriella Nugent added 20 points, including six three-pointers. Karlie Cosme finished with 16 points in the win. Top performer for Westport was Korynne Holden with a team-best 19 points, five steals and three assists. Leah Sylvain finished with 17 points, three rebounds, a steal and an assist). Other players who hit the score sheet were Jenna Egbe (six) Sarah Perry (five) and Julia George (two).
NEXT UP: The Raiders host Case on Tuesday while the Wildcats travel to Bishop Connolly on Wednesday.

Boys basketball: Bishop Connolly at Bishop Stang
SCORE: Bishop Stang 57, Bishop Connolly 54

HIGHLIGHTS: The Cougars lost a close game on the road against non-league opponent Bishop Stang. Alex Krynicki led Connolly with 18 points. Jah Stephenson finished with 17 points. Sage Baptiste had 27 for the Spartans.
NEXT UP: The Cougars travel to Westport on Wednesday.
Boys basketball: Atlantis Charter vs. Holbrook
SCORE: Holbrook 71, Atlantis Charter 45
LOCATION: Atlantis Charter

RECORD: Atlantis Charter, 7-8
HIGHLIGHTS: The Tritons lost a home to visiting Holbrook. Miquel Pimental led Atlantis Charter in scoring with 15 points. Other scorers include Angel Martinez (13), Raul Pimentel (10), Amare Dunagan (five), and Izzy Aponte (two). "We started slowly and [it] put us in hole," Tritons head coach Bob Ferris said. "We battled in the second half, but the deficit was too big. Proud that the kids kept on working hard."

Girls Swimming: Durfee at Martha's Vineyard
SCORE: Durfee 70, Martha's Vineyard 35
LOCATION: Martha's Vineyard

RECORD: Durfee, 5-5
HIGHLIGHTS: The Hilltoppers defeated Martha's Vineyard on the road. Emma McDonnell (50 free, 27.82 and 100 breaststroke,1:20.77), Aimee Tiebout (200 free, 2:16.22 and 500 free, 6:19.16) and Avery Antunes (200 IM, 2:49.21 and 100 butterfly, 1:16.72) were double winners for Durfee. Zoie Mussotte also won her event in the 100 backstroke (1:33.21). The 200 medley relay team of Mussotte, Antunes, McDonnell, and Tiebout placed first with a time of 2:30.00. Abigail Saunders joined Antunes, Tiebout, and McDonnell in the victorious 200 free relay team (1:57.02). Paitynn Bothelo, Claire Bjerre, and Kasey Juarez each had strong performances as well.

HIGHLIGHTS: The Hilltoppers dropped their meet on the road against Martha's Vineyard. Omar Mahmoud won the 200 IM with a time of 2:46.20. Michael Harrington took first in the 500 free with a time of 6:27.45. Tim Archambault and Will Rumsey each turned in by strong performances.

Indoor Track: Durfee at MSTCA State Coaches Invitational

HIGHLIGHTS: The Hilltoppers track and field athletes fared well during Sunday's MSTCA State Coaches Large School Invitational. Shakira Cadet made the finals in the two events she competed in. She ran a personal-best time of 7.41 in the preliminary 55 dash and finished eighth (7.44) in finals. Cadet also placed fourth in the long jump (17'2"). Jasmine DeSouto competed in the shot put while Aiden Lanciault competed in the 600, winning his heat and running a personal best 1:30.73. He also competed in the long jump. The Hilltoppers are preparing this week for their conference championships next week at the Reggie Lewis Athletic Center.

Indoor Track: Diman at MSTCA Coaches Invitational Meet

HIGHLIGHTS: The Bengals participated in Sunday's MSTCA Coaches Invitational meet. Kaitlyn Nickelson took home a sixth-place medal in high jump with a leap of 5'0. Other top performers for the Diman girls include Grace Flattery (high jump, 4'8"), Inez Medeiros (55, 7.71), Emma Foley (55 hurdles, 9.90) and the 4x200 team of Isabelle Chekares, Alexah Pedder, Emma Foley, and Inez Medeiros (1:59). For the boys, Nathan Nascimento ran a (6.95) in the 55 while Ethan Cabral had a time of 1:34 in the 600. The 4x200 team of Asafe Penha, Ethan Cabral, Keith Gomes, and Nathan Nascimento ran a 1:41.

HIGHLIGHTS: A small group of Raiders track and field athletes recently competed at MSTCA Coaches Invitational meet. Cali Leger placed ninth overall for SBR in the shot put with a throw of 31'9.25". Brady Camara finished in 15th place overall in the 55 dash with a time of 6.96.
