South Carolina football flips South Florence QB LaNorris Sellers commitment from Syracuse
COLUMBIA — South Carolina football offered four-star quarterback LaNorris Sellers long after he had committed to Syracuse, but after an intense late push, the in-state standout flipped to sign with the Gamecocks on Friday.
Sellers led South Florence High School to the Class 4A state championship and was a finalist for South Carolina Mr. Football this season. He logged 2,949 passing yards with 45 touchdowns and just two interceptions and rushed for over 1,000 yards.
The 6-foot-2, 215 pound quarterback is the No. 5 prospect in the state for the Class of 2023 and the No. 26 quarterback nationally, according to the 247Sports Composite ranking. He is the only quarterback in the Gamecocks' class, and coach Shane Beamer said Wednesday prior to Sellers' signing that adding a QB was a priority for the remainder of the recruiting cycle.

Sellers chose South Carolina from among 11 Division offers after commiting to Syracuse in March. The Gamecocks have now signed four of of the Palmetto State's top five prospects in the Class of 2023. Sellers is joined by offensive lineman Markee Anderson, defensive lineman Xzavier McLeod and edge rusher Monteque Rhames.
The Gamecocks' 2023 class is ranked No. 16 in the country and No. 7 in the SEC. It is the program's highest-ranked class since it brought in the No. 16 class in 2012. The Class of 2022, Beamer's first at the helm of the program, finished No. 24 in the nation.
Sellers's flip comes after the Gamecocks hired Dowell Loggains as offensive coordinator following former OC Marcus Satterfield's departure for Nebraska. Loggains is a former NFL quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator, and he spent the past two seasons coaching tight ends at Arkansas.
South Carolina (8-4) also built recruiting momentum off of back-to-back upsets of then-No. 5 Tennessee and then-No. 8 Clemson in the final two weeks of the regular season. The No. 19 Gamecocks will conclude the year in the Gator Bowl in Jacksonville, Florida, against No. 21 Notre Dame (8-4) on Dec. 30 (3:30 p.m., ESPN).
