The new pastor of St. Edward Catholic Church took a deep dive into the social scene by serving as chairman of the annual Christmas dinner dance.

Talk about a baptism by fire! Did anybody let the good pastor know what a ball chairman has to endure? It's enough to put the third Commandment in jeopardy.

The Rt. Rev. Archimandrite Glen Pothier did his sentence um, served as chairman of the Holly Jolly Christmas dinner dance on Dec. 7 at The Breakers.

The evening began with greetings by the chairman and St. Edward Guild president Florence Berney. The Christmas dinner dance is organized by the guild.

After cocktails and hors d'oeuvres in the Mediterranean Room, the guests moved to the Venetian Ballroom for a blessing from Father Glen, who expressed his gratitude for all that the parish members do in the community year-round and wished all a joyful holiday.

The night continued with dinner, dessert and dancing to the music of the Street Talk Orchestra.

Committee members for the gala included past guild president Jo Anne Burkholder, as well as Mary Lynn Rogers, Priscilla Schmeelk, Jean McCoy-Phillips, Carla Cove, Maggie Shepherd and Marilyn Diaz.

More than 225 people attended, including honorary past chairs John and Virginia Gildea, Joe and Sharon Muscarelle, and Jack and Kathy Flagg.

Proceeds from the evening assist the spiritual, educational and community outreach programs of St. Edward Church and its guild.
