Want to check out the wildflower superbloom spreading across California but can’t reach remote viewing areas?

A new drone video lets viewers soar over sweeping hills at hills of gold and purple flowers in one of Luis Obispo County’s most scenic spots. (Can’t see the video above? Try turning off your ad blocker and reloading the page.)

Tribune photographer David Middlecamp drove out to prime wildflower territory near Carrizo Plain National Monument in early April to capture drone footage of the brightly colored blossoms blanketing the area.

His video shows the Temblor Range packed with common goldfields and wildflowers as far as the eye can see.

Alan Mooney of Fresno was among the wildflower fans stopping to snap pictures of the flowers along Highway 58 in California Valley on April 7.

“The fun thing is from Soda Lake, you’re looking in the distance and you’re seeing the colors, but until you start actually driving closer to it, to the hills here, it just starts completely popping on you,” Mooney said. “It’s just absolutely beautiful.”

“Four years ago was a little more intense than this year, but this is still amazing,” he added. “Just seeing this right here and realizing in maybe a few weeks it’s going to be gone ... it’s unreal.”
