Simu Liu stuns in 'high school yearbook' glamour shots from party: 'Very Asian 90210'
Simu Liu is taking things retro.
The Canadian actor, 33, took to Instagram on Friday to share a couple of photos taken during a party hosted by Netflix's Golden, The Hollywood Reporter and Gold House.
In the first shot, the "Shang-Chi" and "Kim's Convenience" star posed like he was getting a school picture taken. He wore a black and grey varsity jacket and held a red rose.
Liu posed for the camera alongside other notable Asian creatives and professionals in the second snap, including "Amphibia" actress Anna Akana, Yahoo Finance correspondent Melody Hahm and Toronto actor Jason Chan. In the photo, Liu also jokingly embraced Jubilee Media founder Jason Y. Lee.
According to Liu's caption, the photos were taken by Tom's One-Hour Photo & Lab, a quick photo shop based in Los Angeles's Koreatown that gained major popularity in 2019 thanks to country singer Kacey Musgraves.
"I don't use the word starstruck often... but Tom is a special man. What a legend. 'Don't move!'" Liu added in his caption, seemingly quoting something said by the photographer during the session.
Fellow celebrities and fans were quick to join in on the comedy, with many sharing their love for the campy shots.
"Mom's question is: 'How much does that cost?'" joked "Shang-Chi" co-star Fala Chen.
"Stop this right now," added "Bachelorette" star Katie Thurston.
"This is everything," wrote the official Netflix Golden account.
"It's giving high school yearbook superlative for 'Biggest Heartthrob,'" one fan chimed in.
"Not these circa 2005 shopping mall on a Saturday photos," another quipped.
"Giving very Asian 90210 vibes," someone replied.
"He looks like he's a '90s quarterback about to ask you to the homecoming dance and I am here for it," commented one person.
Earlier this week, Liu announced he was chosen as Toronto Life's "Most Influential Torontonian of 2022" by posting a cover photo of the latest edition of the Canadian magazine.
The Chinese-born Canadian actor added that it was an "immense honour" to be given the title.
"Toronto is and always has been a city that celebrates diversity and multiculturalism within the very fibre of its DNA. For my family and the millions like us who came from afar in search of opportunity and prosperity, it is a reminder that our stories matter. Our stories can inspire and influence. Our stories deserve to be told," Liu captioned his post. "So step into the light and make yourself heard!! Thank you, Toronto Life, and thank you to this great city that will always be home."
