Hi foodies,
Fayetteville Dogwood Festival is back for its 41st year with music, activities and carnival rides. I’m most looking forward to — you guessed it — the food.
It all kicks off tonight at Cork & Fork, where 15 local and chain restaurants serve small bites and booze. I’ll be there! If you spot me, say hello.
Friday through Sunday, Festival Park will be lined with food trucks, trailers and other vendors. Here are the eats I’m most excited about:
Mike Nice Empanadas, a Latin food truck based in Knightsdale, specializes in empanadas. The fried pastries are filled with a choice of beef, chicken or cheese; or fillings inspired by Birria tacos, buffalo chicken, or Philadelphia cheesesteaks. I love Birria tacos; the same meat and cheese in empanada form has to be a winning combination.
Party in a Pita serves Mediterranean food like gyros, shawarma and falafel. The Raleigh food truck also offers stuffed grape leaves, tabouli salad and hummus and baba ghanouj plates. Is there anything better than a street gyro? This one is a no-brainer.
Cool Breezes, a Durham food trailer, serves pineapples filled with a frozen drink similar to a slushy and topped with fruit. The dairy-free tropical treats come in flavors like pina colada, peach and mango. Luckily, the forecast looks mild, but I know I’ll still want a sweet treat to cool me off.
