Sheetz cuts price to $3.99 per gallon for Unleaded 88 ethanol blend, $3.49 for 'flex fuel' through July 4 weekend

Those planning a road trip or just looking for a break on gas prices may want to check out their local Sheetz, which on Monday announced it would dramatically cut the price of two types of fuel.

Effective immediately, the chain is reducing the price of fuel to $3.99 a gallon for Unleaded 88 and $3.49 a gallon for E85. This is a limited time offer that will be available through the July Fourth holiday travel season.

Unleaded 88 is approved by the EPA Environmental Protection Agency for use in vehicles for model years 2001 or newer as well as light-duty trucks, SUVs and Flex Fuel Vehicles. It contains 15% ethanol and 85% gasoline.

E85 contains from 51%-83% ethanol and is not compatible with all vehicles. It is designed specifically for "flexible fuel vehicles" or FFVs. FFVs can use regular gasoline (E10), E15 or E85. When available, E85 is clearly designated as a different fuel type and should not be used in standard vehicles. Drivers should check their owner’s manual to see if their vehicle is able to run with E85.

According to the Automobile Association of America, the average price of gasoline across Northeast Ohio is $4.86 per gallon, which is about 10 cents per gallon lower than last week. The average price per gallon one year ago was about $2.95 per gallon.
