Seven-mile stretch of turnpike in Palm Beach County will be closed early morning of Aug. 1

Florida’s Turnpike will close all lanes northbound and southbound between Boynton Beach Boulevard and Lake Worth Road from 10 p.m. July 31 to 5 a.m. Aug 1.

The closure is one in a series of full closures for the replacement of the Hypoluxo Road bridge as part of the widening project from Boynton Beach Boulevard (Exit 86) to Lake Worth Road (Exit 93). The bridge had to be relocated to accommodate the project.

Eastbound traffic on the Hypoluxo Road bridge over the turnpike has been shifted slightly to the north as part of the next bridge reconstruction phase. One lane in each direction on the bridge will remain open to all traffic and emergency vehicles.

The work is part of a lane-widening project between the Lantana toll plaza and the West Palm Beach service plaza. The project is estimated to cost $170 million; construction is expected to be completed in the summer of 2025.

In addition to the reconstruction of the Hypoluxo Road bridge, the project also includes the following improvements:

  • Realigning parts of the turnpike to avoid utility conflicts.

  • Improving signs, pavement markings, signalization, lighting and drainage.

  • Constructing sound walls along qualifying residential areas.

There are also several other Florida turnpike widening projects
