They hid. They cried. They prayed for survival. And residents in a Jackson County city awoke Tuesday to pick up the pieces a twister left behind.
More than 100 homes and businesses were damaged or destroyed in Moss Point, Mississippi on Monday after an EF-2 tornado with winds of 130 mph tore through a near 2.5-mile stretch of town.
Six people were injured and no fatalities were reported.
The Sun Herald spent time with the community as they surveyed tornado damage after the severe weather passed. Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) also surveyed the area with a drone after the storm.
